BDU (Battle Dress Uniform) was issued to the US Armed Forces as their standard for warfare attire from early 1980s to mid-2000s, to replace GDU (Garrison Dress Uniform). Intended for use during "battles", as opposed to "garrison" dress uniforms, the Battle Dress Uniform was used by the U.S. Armed Forces as their standard uniform for warfare situations from the early 1980s to the mid-2000s. Indicative of the Vietnam-era jungle fatigues, the BDU trousers and combat shirt first were issued in 1981 in classic Woodland camouflage pattern, which soon replaced all earlier camouflage pattern uniforms for all wooded, jungle and tropical environments.
